Using insect bioconversion for a more sustainable food industry

Context

In a context of resource scarcity and increasing population demand, it is important to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to produce food resources.

Objective

Using insects (mealworms and black soldier flies) as a source of food in the fishing and poultry industry through bioconversion.

About the project

This scientific method consists of modifying an organic substance (here the insect) into one or more others through the action of living organisms, or an enzyme system. Laboratory and pilot scale experiments are carried out for each of the components of the bioconversion unit: breeding, processing and use of the products. A complete Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) provides an overview of the system and allows to confirm the sustainability of the method for the industry sector.
