COPEFISH

Development of a pilot plant for the development and production of copepods in large volume to optimize larval rearing of tropical fishes

Context

Copepods currently offer great potential for aquaculture development and various biotechnological applications.
They are the natural prey of fish and have the nutritional qualities needed for the normal development of fish larvae. Interest in copepods for aquaculture has increased in recent years.

Objective

Refining the protocol for rearing and enriching of copepod cultures.

About the project

Mass production is then based on simplified protocols that can be easily applied over to large volumes. The production of copepods (nauplii) is used to prolong the survival of larvae of tropical species that are still poorly controlled. Developing a pilot project for the enhancement and production of copepods in large volumes makes it possible to optimise the larval rearing of tropical fish.
