FranceAgriMer Key Figures: Fishing and Aquaculture Sector 2026
The sector is characterized by great diversity, supported by a fleet of over 6,000 vessels spread across mainland France and the outermost regions.
This activity feeds an entire ecosystem composed of 34 fish auctions, as well as hundreds of wholesaling and processing companies.
However, the industry faces a major commercial challenge:
despite solid national production, France reported a trade deficit of €4.9 billion in 2024, highlighting a heavy reliance on imports to meet domestic demand.
