3 questions for Mr. Bonnefond – Darewin Evolution

What is your business?

Low-yielding wild algae are a major obstacle to growth, resulting in low competitiveness and reduced innovation. Thanks to our algorithm-driven Darwinian selection platform, we are able to naturally improve algae productivity to optimize margins by a factor of at least 1.5x. Combined with our collection of over 7,000 wild microalgae, we accelerate our clients’ innovation and differentiation. With productivity gains of 2x or more, our impact is significant. This revolutionary technology transforms the overly expensive cultivation of microalgae into a profitable activity, thus unlocking the sector’s potential.

Who are your products/services aimed at?

Our offering is aimed at microalgae producers seeking high production performance. It is also aimed at all companies using algae that want to control the source of their product for reasons of autonomy as well as competitive advantage. Finally, our offering is aimed at companies looking to diversify their product catalog or seeking R&D support around microalgae.

Why are innovation and research important in your sector?

The use of wild, weakly domesticated microalgae strains that are poorly adapted to intensive production conditions is systematically considered by industry experts as one of the main obstacles directly hindering productivity, profitability, and therefore the development of the sector. Our technology is based on over 15 years of research in partnership with Inria and the Villefranche-sur-Mer Oceanographic Laboratory. Our patented methods were developed specifically to address this issue. The Aquimer cluster, via its targeted support, accelerates our deployment through networking, support in project submission, and its backing of the microalgae sector.
