DESHYBOU
Innovative methods for dewatering industrial and urban sludge
Context
Every year, companies produce large volumes of both mineral and organic sludge. Dewatering this sludge is important for a better reuse (water treatment, transport for reuse…). It is difficult to dewater as chemical additives (coagulant-flocculant) are used for mineral sludge. This results in potential contamination of filtered water and filter cakes. Today, it is estimated that 50 million tons of sludge are dewatered at an annual cost of between 500 million and 1 billion euros in France.
Objectif
Designing a process to stabilize and reduce as much as possible the water content of the sludge for a lower energy consumption without using contaminating chemical agents.
About the <strong>project </strong>
The process uses a physical treatment process employing a filter press assisted by an electric field. The DESHYBOU prototype is implemented during the project and tested on sites containing sludge of various origins, particularly aquaculture.
