ALPO
New polymer materials derived from micro-algae biomass
Context
The use of renewable raw materials is becoming widespread, particularly in packaging and textiles. Under legislative pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, plastics users are developing new bio-based materials. However, the development of such biopolymers is lagging behind in Europe, especially in the France-Wallonia-Flanders cross-border region.
Objective
Designing new (bio)plastics with high added value.
About the <strong>project </strong>
The project activities aim at strengthening, or even creating, new economic activities for SMEs and large companies present in the France-Wallonia-Flanders cross-border area. More specifically, new building bricks (monomers, etc.) and corresponding bioplastics will be developed from microalgae, a renewable and non-food raw material.
