NANOCULTURE

Promoting sustainable development in the aquaculture sector and supporting the use of safe and non-toxic nanoparticles

Context

Nanomaterials (materials that do not exceed 100 nanometres in size) are increasingly used in industry. This increases the risk of metal nanoparticles being released into the environment and entering living organisms. In addition, there is a real lack of information on the effects of nanoparticles in water and on living organisms under real conditions.

Objective

Promoting sustainable development in the aquaculture sector and to support the use of safe and non-toxic nanoparticles.

About the project

The project is organized around three research approaches:
● Assessing the risks of human exposure to nanoparticles;
● Assessing the presence, accumulation and transformation of nanoparticles in aquaculture sites in the Atlantic region;
● Developing nanoparticle sensors that will allow real-time monitoring in aquaculture sites.
